Pick the Weeds and Keep the Flowers

Firstly I would just like to give credit to Miss Kelly Clarkson for bringing my attention to this quote or line as she calls it here. What my interpretation of this line is to take all of the toxic people out of your life and keep the ones that are positive.

Seems easy enough right?  But the issue then becomes how can you differentiate between who are weeds and  flowers?

Sometimes weeds can disguise themselves is places where you would think that they would not traditionally be. They are craftier then you think and if you are not aware it is very easy to invite these people into your inner circle

A certain breed of weed is something that I call an emotional vampire. An emotional vampire is someone after spending an extending period of time you feel suck the life right out of you. They accomplish this by being insecure and using you as a sounding board for all of their emotional breakdowns.

The next breed of weed is the Sponge friend. This friend only calls you when she wants something. so your the sponge and she is squeezing the water out of you. The want could be anything for borrowing something, wanting an invite to a social event or just your conversations. Now being that this person is your friend you normally would not object to helping them out. The issue then arises when you have to ask them for something and they are never able to return the favour. Then they do weird things and call you when they think that you are unavailable and then say "oh I thought that you were at work." My question to you if why would you call me if you thought that I was unavailable? You obviously don't want to talk to me and by calling me when you know that I am at work is your way to disguise your sponginess.
There are many other types of weeds that can work there way into your life the trick is learning how to spot them. The most valuable thing that you have is your time and when you choose to spend it with people that do not love you or want the best of you it is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make.

To conclude I think it is best to look around at all of the flowers in your life and nurture those relationships to the best of our abilities.
